We showcase a lot of new Rohloff-equipped bikes on The Monkey Lab, but we also do Rohloff retrofits and refurbs on existing bikes from time to time. This Civia Hyland was originally built for a friend of ours for commuting and wet weather road rides.
Neil has been searching for the holy grail of long travel full suspension mountain bikes for quite a while. He has had a number of frames over the years that have worked fairly well, but they all had one or more key issues that he hoped to resolve. Most mainstream suspension frames are essentially the same design with different branding and slightly different aesthetics.
Bike Friday built this frame for us to showcase at tradeshows as well as to offer to customers visiting our office wanting to test the Rohloff SPEEDHUB and Gates Carbon Drive drivetrain. Bike Friday hand builds each of their folding bikes to their customers’ specifications in their Eugene, Oregon workshop.
This Moots CoMooter came in to us recently for help with some of the final setup details and was such an appealing bike that we had to get a closer look. The customer had recently purchased this titanium dream commuter from Moots to get around town with style and speed. It features nothing but top-shelf components and is one of the most lust-worthy commuters we’ve seen.

We built this custom “Independence” model for a customer who lives in Thailand and has done plenty of off road touring throughout Southeast Asia on his trusty mountain bike.
This eye-catching Twenty2 Cycles 29+ is custom-built for adventure touring but is also well suited for fast singletrack.This gorgeous Twenty2 Cycles frame is the latest in a handful of builds we have put together using the new “29+” platform. These bikes use three inch wide 29er tires mounted to 50mm rims, which provide ample float and traction like a fatbike, yet roll fast like a standard 29er.
Custom Soulcraft frame in sea-foam green.We built up this custom Soulcraft for a customer who had a very specific road bike in mind. He had searched in vain for a production frame to suit his needs, but couldn't find anything available on the market. After deciding that a custom frame would be his best option, he contacted Soulcraft, a local Northern California framebuilder, to make his dream bike a reality.

He wanted an 'ultimate commuter' bike with integrated features and built for long term heavy use similar to the Firefly E.P.U.C we highlighted previously.
Ventana El Comandante profileThis custom Ventana El Comandante 29er mountain bike was built for a customer in Alaska who was looking for a rig that was capable of completing long-distance off road events like the Tour Divide (which was won last year by Ollie Whalley on the same frame and drivetrain).
We built this bright green commuter for one of our customers in Anchorage, AK. He had been commuting on an aluminum cyclocross frame and wanted to switch to a steel bike for better comfort. He was also looking for a more durable frame to do some touring on. He had picked up a used Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 and sent it down to us for an overhaul and to be built up with a Chris King front hub into a wheelset.
