Rohloff-Equipped Surly Ogre 29er Touring/Mountain Bike in HI-VIZ!

You will never lose this bike. Ever. This is by far the brightest Surly bike we've ever put together. It's a Surly Ogre, a bike designed to be ridden just about anywhere. Our customer was looking for a versatile, mixed-terrain bike suitable for touring and light mountain biking in a package that was visible, reliable, and bulletproof. We built the bike around the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 internally geared hub, a bulletproof drivetrain that gives the full gear range of a derailleur system, requires very little maintenance, and needs no adjustments once set up. Plenty of braze-ons for disc brakes, rim brakes, racks, fenders, bottle cages, etc. on the painted to match steel fork The Surly Ogre is a great choice for a do it all machine due to it's tough steel construction, Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 compatibility, and smart design. It has ample tire clearance and plenty of braze-ons for anything you could want including a special Surly trailer. In order to meet the visibility requirement, we had our local powder coater strip the stock finish and spray the frame with an eye catching shade of fluorescent green. We set up the bike for use with both the stock steel fork (painted to match) and a Rock Shox suspension fork. Non-driveside dropout showing chainstay brake mount, Rohloff OEM2 mount. Surly Tugnutts on either side hold the wheel in place and allow for easier reinstallation of the wheelBecause this bike is going to be ridden hard in varying conditions and on rough terrain, we needed to build a strong set of wheels for it. We laced the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 and Shimano XT front hub to a set of Velocity Cliffhanger rims (our favorite heavy duty rim) with SAPIM Race spokes in all black to let the bright green frame really pop. The Ogre dropout features a trailer mount, derailer hanger, all kinds of rack and fender mounts, and a horizontal slot for adjusting chain tensionClean Rohloff cable routingThis Surly Ogre is another example of the kind of versatile bikes we often build around the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 hub.  It could easily be ridden across the country or just used as a daily commuter. Even with the large Schwalbe Big Apple tires there is plenty of clearance for a full coverage fender or just lots of mud.  The gear range and reliability of the Rohloff SPEEDHUB 500/14 are only two reasons why they are so popular with our customers.
