Suspension Services

We are extremely passionate about suspension performance and specialize in servicing and tuning forks and shocks. We offer everything from routine maintenance to custom valving, oil heights, or spring rates. Overhaul / Rebuild service is available for most forks on the market and some rear shocks.

Riding a bike with suspension offers a whole new level of comfort, excitement, and control on the trail. However, suspension components need routine service to keep them performing at their best and to ensure they will last. Quality suspension components use oil to both control the wheel as it encounters bumps (damping) and lubricate internal parts as they slide past each other. The seals on these components do a good job of keeping the oil in and the dirt and water out, but inevitably as the seals wear over time, some contaminants will make it past and into the oil. Riding with dirty oil can make the suspension feel harsh and limit the amount of travel, or worse, it can cause internal wear as the contaminants in the oil continually scrape against the insides. Internal wear can cause play in the fork (a feeling similar to a loose headset) and air or oil leaks.

To combat this, most suspension manufacturers recommend servicing suspension annually, or every 200 hours of riding time. Cycle Monkey offers routine servicing as recommended by the manufactures as well as custom tuning of suspension to your riding style and needs. The following suspension services are available:

Routine Fork Overhaul

  • Clean and inspect external and internal parts.
  • Replace seals and wipers as necessary.
  • Replace o-rings, glide rings, damper rods, damper cartridges, etc. as needed.
  • Replace bushings as necessary.
  • Refill with fresh oil.
  • Set air spring or install coil spring according to riders body weight and riding style.

Custom Tuning Options

  • Oil weight can be selected to increase or decrease damping.
  • Oil height can be altered to adjust bottom out resistance and make spring rate more or less progressive.
  • Coil springs can be swapped to match body weight or riding style.
  • Negative springs can be swapped to alter initial starting force to either improve small bump performance or reduce bobbing.
  • Shim stack can be rearranged to change damping characteristics.
  • Fork travel can be changed (only on forks that offer this feature).
  • Upgrade items can be installed such as remote lockouts, newer dampers, dampers with more adjuster knobs, etc.

We provide individual quotes for each job that we perform.  Please contact us to discuss ways in which we can improve your fork and we will give you a custom quote.
